It was the first hackathon at Mobfox – but definitely not the last one.
Last week Mobfox organized its first hackathon in collaboration with SOS Pets. The NGO is one of Israel’s most veteran non-profit organizations, committed to saving and improving the lives of homeless cats and dogs throughout Israel.
“We are privileged to be a company with so many smart, skilled and caring people – and we wanted to give back to the community where we live and work” – says Pamela Becker, Mobfox’s VP of Global Marketing about the company’s motivation to pinpoint an NGO as the center of the hackathon event.
And giving back they did.
On Thursday, May 3rd eight cross-departmental teams were formed to address one of the several issues with which SOS Pets outlined as pain points for them. And out of the eight teams, the creative juices flowed and great ideas were born, developed and presented at the flash presentation session at the end of the hackathon.
Hackathon Solutions for NGO Problems
Some offered new tech-based fundraising solutions such as viral cross-platform campaigns. Others conceived clever web platforms and apps to better support the rescue, transport and adoption of the four-legged recipients of SOS Pets’ services.
Their success possibly lied in the hackathon’s mentor system – where experienced managers guided the teams through various challenges; the readily available help of SOS Pets’ representatives who spoke at length with each group; and the usual hackathon trademarks: pizza, beer and of course dogs. Lots of dogs.
“We are proud to cooperate with an organization like SOS Pets, who work tirelessly at improving the quality of life for so many animals. It was energizing and fun for the entire team as we leveraged the knowledge and infrastructure that’s available at Mobfox to benefit such a good cause,” commented Gil Klein, Managing Director of Mobfox. “The event was a first for the company, but more will follow for sure.”
